  3. Tall watch towers (or crude observatories) called 
  4. ziggurats were constructed so that the priest-
  5. astrologers could study the stars and planets. Another 
  6. purpose of the ziggurat may have been to bring the 
  7. priest-astrologers closer to a particular god. One 
  8. such ziggurat was built by King U-Nammu who founded 
  9. the Third Summerian Dynasty (2079-1960 BC). The 
  10. ziggurats in Babylon, Ur, and Uruk were nearly 300 
  11. feet high (30 stories high!). Many archeologists
  12. believe that the biblical tale of the construction of 
  13. the Tower of Babel may in fact describe the 
  14. construction of a ziggurat.
